Pakistan is expected to spend more than a billion dollars next fiscal year to import COVID-19 vaccines to inoculate nearly 100 million people. In response, a local government in Pakistan has a new weapon in the chest of its war against vaccine skepticism: don’t disable SIM cards on the mobile phones of people who refuse to jab, according to News on RT.
Punjab Health Minister Yasmin Rashid decided on Thursday at a meeting of the Punjab provincial government and military officials that anyone who refuses the COVID-19 jab will be made to disable their SIM cards in “a in time.
“We are doing everything to force people to be vaccinated… The government will not allow individuals, who do not want to be vaccinated, to endanger the lives of those who have already been vaccinated,” Rashid said. He added that a timeline from when someone denies the jab of denying the SIM card will be released once the new move receives formal approval from the National Command and Operation Center, which oversees the Pakistan’s national response to COVID-19.
After the meeting, the Primary and Secondary Health Department of Punjab tweet: “Mobile SIMS of unvaccinated people could be blocked, it was determined at the Cabinet meeting under the chairman of the Minister for Health Dr. Yasmin Rashid of the Civil Secretariat. The government will open walk-in vaccination which the group is over 18 years old. ”
There is no word on when the SIM card lock will start.
However, provincial officials announced that the plan is underway;
“Final decision was taken to block mobile SIM cards of people who have not been vaccinated,” said department spokesman Syed Hammad Raza of Pakistan. It’s dawn newspaper.
