CDC Increases Eligibility for COVID-19 Booster Shots to All Adults


Today, CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky, MD, MPH, endorsed the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices ’(ACIP) expanded recommendations for booster shots to include all adults of all ages. and 18 years of age and older who received the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine at least six months after their second dose.

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval and the CDC’s recommendation for use are essential to the next steps forward in our nation’s development program – a program that will help provide additional protection against the disease COVID- 19 and death.

The CDC continues to encourage 47 million unvaccinated adults to be vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves, their families, loved ones and communities. We also strongly encourage those who already qualify – the elderly population and individuals with underlying medical conditions – to be encouraged before the holidays.

Anyone who can find available vaccines near them on vaccines.gov and can consult their health care provider or local pharmacist if they have questions about vaccines or boosters.

“Following a critical scientific review, the unanimous decision is now cautiously considering the current state of the pandemic, the latest vaccine effectiveness data over time, and a review of safety data from people who have has already received the COVID-19 flagship series of vaccine and booster.Booster shots demonstrate the ability to safely increase people’s protection against infection and serious consequences and are an important public health tool to strengthen our defenses against the virus as we embark on the winter holidays.Based on compelling evidence, all adults over 18 should now have equal access to a dose that increases COVID -19. ”
