Medical Racism: The New Apartheid a new documentary promoted by anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Instead of shedding light on real racism in healthcare, it uses lies and misrepresentations to victimize vaccines.
Systematic racism in medicine and public health is a serious and urgent issue – and one we have discussed. ago. But this latest documentary is about an even greater trend to target established communities with misinformation about vaccines. At its core, the film is exploitative and misleading, falsely tied modern vaccines to historical atrocities such as Tuskegee study, to prevent Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) from vaccination.
What it doesn’t know is how dropping vaccination rates will deepen health differences in communities of color – the communities most affected by COVID -19 disease.
We desperately need to fix racism in healthcare. Scaring people away from vaccines is not how we get there.
Vaxopedia, a website of pediatrician Dr. Vincent Ianelli with information on vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases, recently lies in RFK Jr.’s latest project.:
“If you follow what Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. has come up with this late season, you can predict most of his new film, Medical Racism: The New Apartheid, not really about medical racism… it’s more misinformation and propaganda from Kennedy, mostly about vaccines. ”For more information on the claims of this film, read here the full review of Vaxopedia.
