the Tokyo Olympics appears to be much different than any previous Games in recent times due to the coronavirus and it can even affect how athletes interact.
International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said Wednesday there were no handshakes and “no hugs during the ceremony.”
Bach added that medal winners should hang their awards around their own necks instead of the usual praise that accompanies ceremonies.
“Medals are not given around the neck,” Bach told reporters. “Have them wait for the athletes who are on a tray and then the athlete will take the medal from him.
“Make sure the medal holder on the tray will only do so with disinfected gloves to make sure the athlete doesn’t touch them.”
Olympic organizers announced last week that the games would be held without spectators as the disease continued to grasp parts of Japan. – READ MORE
