A town in New Jersey indeed, really true Wanting to honor George Floyd’s memory, they erected a 700-pound statue of him outside City Hall.
Pix 11 reports that the statue was unveiled at a ceremony Wednesday, with Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and others paying tribute to Floyd, who died on May 25, 2020, after being attempted to arrest Minneapolis police and one, Derek Chauvin, knelt around Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes.
“I ask to encourage walkers to be more active, to get involved in activism,” Baraka said of the many statues.
“The statue was commissioned by actor and filmmaker Leon Pickney and it was sculpted by actor Stanley Watts,” Pix reports. “The artwork is donated by the city and will be displayed for at least one year in partnership with the Division of Arts and Cultural Affairs.”
In a press release celebrating the statue, the organizers wrote “Mr. Floyd’s death sparked the Black Lives Matter movement, resulting in an international response, including protests, police reform measures, and removal of Confederate statues from public parks and names. racist from organizations. ”- READ MORE
