President Joe Biden elected former GOP Sen. Jeff Flake as his ambassador to Turkey, choosing a Republican to lead one of the most important and refined foreign relations in the United States.
Flake, who served as an Arizona senator from 2013 to 2019 and genuinely supported Biden because of former President Donald Trump, said he was “honored and humiliated” by a statement.
“Because of the strategic importance of the United States’ relationship with our long -standing NATO Ally, the Republic of Turkey, I am honored and humbled by the trust that President Biden has given me in this ambassadorial nomination, ”Flake said. “This is an important post at an important time for both of our countries.”
Flake, a former member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, isn’t the only Republican Biden to call for a position abroad. He named Cindy McCain, the widow of the late Arizona Sen. John McCain, to become the U.S. representative at the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture, with the rank of ambassador, in June. – READ MORE
