The Department of Justice on Tuesday announced this will use “strike forces” to prosecute illegal arms sales in U.S. major cities.
Strike forces are possible launched within 30 days of the Democrat -run New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, San Francisco, and their respective metropolitan areas. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) will work with designated U.S. attorneys to target “firearms trafficking corridors,” according to a news release from the Justice Department.
Strike force groups should not be limited to operating within those metropolitan areas, according to the Justice Department, and they will “share information and otherwise cooperate with districts where arms trafficking schemes violate state or jurisdictional borders to focus enforcement against entire trafficking networks, from areas where firearms are illegally obtained to areas where they are used to commit violent crimes. ”
Attorney Merrick Garland said the move was designed to strengthen cooperation between the federal government and “local partners,” adding that Tuesday’s announcement was “a concrete step to address violent crime and illegal arms sales. “
“Our strike marketing forces will investigate and destroy the networks that filter guns crime in our communities with tragic consequences,” he said. he added.
