Thousands of anti-lockdown demonstrators took to the streets of Sydney and other Australian cities on Saturday to protest the new lockdown measures amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.

Dozens were arrested and charged after several people broke through barriers and clashed with officers, dropping bottles and whatever they could get.

Unmasked protesters marched from Victoria Park in Sydney to Town Hall. An estimated 15,000 people took part in the march. Many shouted anti-lockdown slogans and there were signs calling for “freedom” and “the truth.”

Social media footage showed thousands of demonstrators marching through Sydney’s downtown area.

There was a significant police presence, including hanging police and riot control officers in response to what authorities called an “unauthorized protest.”

Demonstrators opposed restrictions on unnecessary travel and public gatherings that could continue until October.

The Greater Sydney area has been locked up for a month as infections have risen.

Protesters were also seen in Melbourne and Adelaide.

There was dissatisfaction among Australians forced into lockdowns as well as a start to the delta variant that began last month.

The protests are not limited to Australia. New COVID rules were enforced across Europe as the Delta infection erupted, with demonstrators in France and Greece taking to the streets. The UK is still triggering widespread panic via a new app that informs thousands of people that they need to be quarantined for ten days for possible exposure

Many cities in the United States now require people to wear a mask indoors among the survey cases.
