New Video Shows Surfside Condo Parking Garage Destroyed Before Collapse

The video was recorded moments before Champlain Tower South breakdown on Thursday showed concrete collapsing and water pouring from the ceiling of the underground garage.

The footage, shot by Adriana Sarmiento and Roberto Castillero, two tourists staying at a nearby hotel, first heard a loud explosion minutes before the 12 -story condominium building collapsed. They grabbed their smartphones and went to the parking garage.

They found water pouring from the ceiling and concrete smashing inside the underground parking garage. This is another indication that structural defects may be part of the collapse, as outlined in an earlier report in the field of engineering.

Adriana Sarmiento said ABC News they went to investigate the loud bang. He got the video about 0118 ET Thursday, minutes before the crash.

Here is the additional video.

Sarmiento said he tried to warn residents who were on their porch about the danger. But it was too late to leave the building because the next thing the couple saw was “dust, and then, glass, rocks, and I started running for my life,” Castillero said.

It took the couple a few minutes to figure out what had happened, but after they figured it out, a huge pile of trash and debris was left in the tower.

“I said, ‘Where are the people on the balcony?’ “Castillero said.” I didn’t know there was no balcony. “

Sarmiento said the night revolved around his mind.

“For me, it’s very hard to imagine everyone living there,” he said.

As of Wednesday night, the death toll had risen to 18 with 145 people unaccounted for, according to local Surfside officials.

Presidents Joe Biden and Jill Biden plan to travel to the condo site in Surfside, Florida, to offer condolences to families as the death toll is expected to increase.
