COVID-19 Continues to Be a Leading Cause of Death in the United States in June 2021

An updated brief issue examined the impact of COVID-19 on mortality rates, and found that in June 2021, COVID-19 fell to number seven on the list of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. As of January 2021, COVID was the number one leading cause of death, with an average of 3,136 people dying each day. Amid the widespread availability of vaccines, the number dropped to an average of 300 daily deaths in June 2021.

As of June 30, 2021, nearly 66% of U.S. adults had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine; however, it appears that the Biden administration may have no target of vaccinating 70% of U.S. adults by July 4th.

The analysis can be found in Peterson-KFF Health System Compliance, an information hub dedicated to monitoring and evaluating the performance of the United States health system.
