A renowned scientist says that understanding the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic is critical for future public health.
“Covid-26 and covid-32 will occur unless we know the origins of covid-19,” said Peter Hotez, a professor of pediatrics and molecular virology and microbiology at Baylor University and a leading expert on virus, said Sunday “Meet The Press.”
Hotez’s call for a full investigation into the origin of the pandemic is the latest among experts and politicians to understand whether the coronavirus originated in a lab in Wuhan.
Anthony Fauci has it too said he was no longer fully convinced of the coronavirus naturally begins.
Since March this year, there have been several reports calling for experts to further investigate the origin of the virus.
Former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield told CNN in March that he still thinks the coronavirus escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Next month, a team from the World Health Organization spent a month in Wuhan investigating the origin of the coronavirus and said the lab leak was “more unlikely.” However, the WHO said they could not access the lab in China and they were not provided with raw data.
Last week, President Joe Biden revealed that he asked the intelligence community to make a report on the origin of the virus in March. Consistent with recent reports, Biden requested that investigators “redouble their efforts to collect and analyze information that could lead us to a definitive conclusion, and report it back to me in the 90’s. day. “
Hotez, however, said he doesn’t believe a community intelligence investigation would be very helpful.
“I am personally of the opinion that we are pushing intelligence as much as possible. All that needs to be done is to need to investigate the outbreak. We need a team of scientists, epidemiologists, virologists, bat ecologists in The province of Hubei within six to six months, a year will last and the onset of COVID-19 will be completely eradicated, ”he said.
China continues to deny claims that the virus started in their lab and refuses to cooperate with investigations.
